Some baby slept soundly in the afternoons, giving the carer a break. However when baby growing up a little, the length of naps could suddenly decrease. The length of nap could be from three to four hours initially decrease to the max of 30 to 45 minutes. We call this a catnapping baby, or catnapper—a term used for babies who have the tendency to sprinkle short 20- to 40-minute naps throughout the day, rather than dozing off for longer periods.

Perfectly normal to catnap

It’s important for babies to catnap, especially babies in the first few months. The reasons is that babies spend more time in REM sleep, REM sleep is easily awaken phase. Small infant may also have more difficulty transitioning between sleep cycles. That means “The sleep cycle” of baby is very short comparable to adult. Usually babies sleep cycle is only about 45 minutes, whereas with adults, it’s 90 minutes which is double. As babies pass through that light stage of sleep, they rouse easily.

Sometime you might think it was a surrounding noise that disturbs the baby sleep, sometime you thought the pacifier was falling out that wake her up. It is perfectly normal that baby catnapped most of the day. But if you decided to cut the nap time out of it, it means the baby will get less sleeping time an hour per day.
