Kangaroo Cuddle® baby rocking cradle was designed to simulate the famous Kangaroo Mother Care clinical method. The snugging hammock simulate the cuddle of the mother and the rocking movement simulate the baby feeling of the mother heartbeat.  The Kangaroo Care was studied by Dr. Edgar Rey Sanabria and others physicians to reduce the infant motarlity and morbidity. Virtually one common finding of Kangaroo care is no crying occurs and easiness to soothes baby to sleep.   

What is Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) ?

In the earlies days, premature babies was imposing a heavy burden to the healthcare system. Medical care for these baby required highly skilled trained staff and demand an expensive infrastructure. A poor setup will usually end up in an ill equipped neonatal care units.

In 1978, Dr. Edgar Ray, a Colombian paediatrician concerned with the problems arising from a shortage of incubators and the impact of separating the mother from newborns in neonatal care units, developed a Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), a healthcare technique for a low birthweight infants that effective for caring neonatal babies.

What does KMC entail ?

In KMC, newborn are attached to the mother or the carers’ chests in skin to skin contact and are kept upright position most of the time. The infant able to regulate the body temperatures by the contact with the mother skin. The infant also able to feel the mother’s heart beat and cuddle like Kangaroo baby in the pouch of the Kangaroo mother. Hence the name Kangaroo Mother Care.

We have designed our cradle based on the KMC concept. The hammock is designed with a snugging fit to let the baby feel like under cuddling by the mother. The rocking movement is also simulating the mother movement and paddling at the baby. Our improved hammock designed using breathable textile materials to prevent suffocation of baby. The opening of the hammock also ease the mother to unsit from the hammock. Provided the baby physical needs is well taking care off, most of the baby will fall asleep between 5 to 15 minutes in the cradle.
